Balancing Motherhood & Entrepreneurship

Real Estate Kristina Halfacre April 2, 2025

As a realtor and a mom, I often juggle what feels like a hundred different tasks each day. Whether I’m attending to my son’s needs or closing a deal, the balancing act can sometimes be challenging. However, over the last 10 years as an agent and coming up on 2 years of motherhood, I’ve learned some valuable lessons that help me navigate both worlds without losing my mind (or my sense of self!) Here are some insights for those of you also balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship, especially if you’re in the real estate field or any fast-paced business.

Set Clear Boundaries

One of the most crucial lessons I’ve learned is to establish clear boundaries between work and family time. When I’m with my son, I focus on being present as much as possible. This means after I pick him up from daycare, I’ve handled business for the day (sent any top priority emails and made any business phone calls). That way, we can spend time together in the afternoon reading or getting fresh air outside. Dedicating specific time blocks of my day to be “all in” for work helps me stay productive and also ensures quality time with family.

Prioritize Tasks

As a realtor, my to-do list can be endless. I’ve learned to prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance. Each week, I set out what absolutely must get done and what can wait. Using tools and resources like digital calendars and investing in a VA (virtual assistant) help to keep me organized and ensures I’m focusing on what truly matters in both my business and home life.

Practice Self-Care

It’s too easy to put self-care on the back burner when you’re running a business and managing a household. I realized that to be the best mother and agent to my clients, I need to take care of myself first. This can be as simple as taking a few minutes for a cup of coffee in peace, a quick yoga flow, or indulging in a massage at Hand & Stone when I get a spare moment. Remember, a happy mom is a productive mom!

Involve Your Kids

I’ve found that including my son when I can in my real estate business can be a fun way to bond and teach him a strong work ethic by example. Whether it’s taking him to the RE/MAX Paradise office with me or including him in a property video shoot, including him in my work helps him to understand what I do and why it’s important at an early age. Plus, it creates cherished memories we can look back on together!

Connect with Other Moms

Networking goes beyond just professional relationships; building connections with other moms in similar situations is invaluable. Sharing experiences, tips, and challenges can provide emotional support and practical advice. Consider joining local mom groups or online communities that resonate with your lifestyle and values. You’ll be surprised at how much strength and encouragement you can find!

Embrace Flexibility

One of the perks of being both a mom and an entrepreneur is the ability to have flexibility. However, this can also mean that unpredictability is part of the game. Kids get sick, appointments get rescheduled, and deals can take unexpected turns. Learning to embrace this flexibility and adapt quickly has been essential. Be kind to yourself during those unexpected situations.

Celebrate Your Wins

Whether it’s a successful closing or a fun day out with your kids, celebrating your wins is vital for maintaining motivation and positivity. Taking time to acknowledge both small and big accomplishments not only boosts morale but also instills a feeling of achievement in your kids, showing them the value of hard work.

Conclusion

Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship is undoubtedly challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. The lessons I’ve gathered along the way have helped me create a fulfilling life that nurtures both my family and my career. So, whether you’re showing houses or watching your little ones grow, remember to breathe, be present, and enjoy the ride. The beautiful chaos of being both a mom and an entrepreneur is something to cherish!
